On December 29, 1938, they were united in marriage at the home of her parents, Garret and Ena Monsma Vander Wilt. To this union three daughters were born: Joyce Elaine, Rosalie Iris and Fern Louise. Martin and Marjorie began farming his parents farm just east of Sully following their marriage and later purchased a farm south of there. Martin was a self-employed farmer all his working life, growing crops and raising livestock for 46 years. In November of 1984 he retired and they purchased a home in Oskaloosa, Iowa. Martin and Marjorie lived there until 2001 when they became residents at Fair Haven East in Pella, Iowa. They resided there until becoming residents at the Heather Manor in Des Moines, Iowa in 2003. She started the Central College program in Yucatan, Mexico in 1968 and has taught there many terms. Arising out of her deep fondness for the Yucatecans, Harriet established the Harriet Heusinkveld Scholarship fund to help needy Mexicans attend Central College. Harriet also found thousands of beautiful seashells along the shores of Mexico and donated many of her best shells to Central College and to the Pella Public Library, now on display at the Vermeer Science Center and the foyer of the public library. Harriet had a wonderful wit and sense of humor and has touched the lives of thousands of people by setting an example of living life with zest, integrity, respect, and kindness. She did much volunteer work for the community and for her church, the Second Reformed Church of Pella. Funeral Service: Thursday, May 1 at 10:00 a.m. , at Covenant Reformed Church, Pella, IA
Interment: Oakwood Cemetery at Pella

Godert C. Vander Hart was born on December 17, 1910 in Sully, Iowa, the eldest child of Chris and Johanna (Roose) Vander Hart. He spent his childhood in several rural areas of Jasper and Marion counties and graduated from Peoria Christian School in 1925 at the age of 14. This ended Godert’s formal education but not his faithful studies, especially of God’s Word. Godert was very active in the Peoria Young Men’s Society and took several trips, including one to the World’s Fair in New York. He met his life’s partner at First Christian Reformed Church in Pella. Grada Agatha Vande Voort and Godert were united in marriage on October 3, 1941 in the church parsonage. They moved into Grada’s childhood home on Franklin Street in Pella. There they raised their two children, JoAnne Ruth and Charles Henry. Godert worked for Grada’s father and brother and then at Frundt Seed Company until he began his own trucking business, Vander Hart Transfer in Pella. He retired from that company in 1974 due to a disabling form of muscular arthritis. After his recovery from that illness, he worked for Vermeer Manufacturing, Thomassen Wholesale, and finally at Lee’s Hallmark. He retired for a second time at age 87. In 1974 Godert and Grada moved to Sunrise Park in Pella where they spent many happy retirement years. Their lives were blessed by the arrival of 12 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren who were their delight. In August of 2001, Godert and Grada moved to Holland, IA to be near their daughter and son-in-law as they needed more care. Their grandchildren and great grandchildren were always welcome at their apartment with popsicles always ready. As their health continued to decline, they again moved to Arlington Place in Grundy Center where they made many new friends. Godert loved to work on jigsaw puzzles and put many of them together with his friends at Arlington. On April 13, 2007 Grada passed away. Godert remained at Arlington until February of 2008 when his congestive heart failure began to cause many problems. He was moved to Grundy Care Center where he spent his last days. His interest in puzzles continued until the last week of his life. Godert was a very special person who ministered all of his life in God’s service. His baptism and profession of faith were made at Peoria Christian Reformed Church. He served as Adult Sunday School teacher for 50 years at First Christian Reformed Church. He served one term as deacon and then several terms as an elder. He also served on the board of the Pella Christian Grade School. His musical talent was used to God’s glory as he led song services, sang in Deo Gloria Men’s Chorus and was part of a men’s quartet for many, many years. When the quartet did special services, Godert would bring the message in small churches throughout the area. Godert and Grada were also faithful for many years in providing Sunday afternoon services at the Marion County Home. He also shared God’s Word to the residents at Arlington Place and sang for devotional times. His commentaries and Bibles are full of sermons and up until he left Arlington Place, he was still planning a message on Isaiah 42. Godert left this world to enter his Heavenly Home on April 24, 2008 at the age of 97 years, 4 months, and 7 days. He is survived by his two children, JoAnne and Gary Nibbelink from Holland, IA and Chuck and Margaret Vander Hart of Davenport. His grandchildren and spouses are Steve (Virginia) Nibbelink of Holland, Susan (Bill) Catron of Holland, Aaron (Eleanor) vanDer Hart of Chicago, Il, Darren (Jennifer) Nibbelink of Springfield, MO., Megan (Michael) Saben of Moneta, VA, Allison (Gary) Siefken of Holland, Kaylin (David) Brinckley of Hampton, IL, Shayleen and special friend Jeff Voss of Davenport, Jonathan, Benjamin, Karen, and Jordan Vander Hart of Davenport. Donald Freeman Meyer was born on April 7, 1915, in a farmhouse near Galesburg, Iowa. He was the youngest of two children that were born to Arie and Josephine (Van Rheenen) Meyer and received his formal education at the Galesburg Country Grade School and attended the Methodist Church in Galesburg. Donald’s mother contacted tuberculosis at a young age and passed away on December 13, 1930, when Donald was 15 years old. Donald and his Dad and sister, Veda, who assumed the role of mother, then lived together until his Dad passed away on October 27, 1938, when Donald was 24 years old. Donald was introduced to Lorena Faye Weyers by her best friend, Minnie Mae Vanden Berg, and on August 7, 1940, they were united in marriage in Pella, Iowa. Donald and Faye raised two wonderful children: Duane Keith who was born on February 2, 1946, and Sheryl Ann who was born on December 1, 1947, while they were living in Otley, Iowa. The first year of their marriage, Donald worked in the coal mines south of Pella along with his brother-in-law, Andrew L. Schippers. In 1942, Donald and Don Kamerick became partners and began a radio repair business known as D & D Radio Repair in a rented building in Pella. Donald later bought out his partner, Don Kamerick, and purchased the building and the business became known as Meyer’s Radio & T V which was located at 720 Main Street in Pella, Iowa. Soon thereafter the economy became depressed and television sales were lean so Donald bought a semi-truck and hired drivers and began hauling tractors. He later drove his own truck hauling produce to the East Coast and Southern States. These trips proved to be very tremulous. Donald received no formal training for his lifelong career but was naturally mechanically inclined and passed his skills onto his son, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In the late 1950’s every Friday night the retail businesses in Pella were open and farmers and townspeople would come into the store and vie for one of the six chairs along the north wall to sit and watch the wrestling matches in “color”. After 62 years in the radio and television business his children convinced him it was time to retire and so in April of 2006, he retired at the age of 91 years. Donald and Faye continued to live the remainder of their married life at 1218 Marion Avenue in Pella. They had enjoyed trips to Holland, Switzerland, Germany and favorite vacations where spent in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He enjoyed gardening and raising red roses and red geraniums. He played the guitar and appreciated country music and had an affinity for black cars. On Monday morning, March 10, 2008, he passed away at the Pella Regional Health Center in Pella at the advanced age of 92 years, 11 months and 3 days. Those who will cherish his memory are his wife of 67 years, Faye, their two children and their spouses, four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. After taking class sessions for seven years at the Marc Adams School of Woodworking in Franklin, Indiania, he earned the title “Master Woodworker” in 2007. His leisure time was spent gardening and doing yard work in the summer, especially enjoying his roses and other flowers. Stan loved the beauty of nature like a gorgeous sunrise while on his morning walks or watching the birds he fed all winter. He wanted to go to Yellowstone in the winter sometime in his life, so on January 31, 2008, Stan and Donna, Brian and Donna and Amy met in West Yellowstone for 5 days, enjoying the beauty of nature and wildlife and having a great time with family. Stan retired on February 29, 2008, and passed away on March 6, 2008, reaching the age of 65 years, 7 months and 7 days after a courageous battle with gastric cancer. Stan was preceded in death by his father, Leroy Vroom, who passed away on July 29, 1996 and his mother-in-law, Evelyn (Tootsie) Lantz who passed away on May 9, 2001. . Stan was a lifelong member of the First Reformed Church in Pella where he had served as both an Elder and a Deacon. His church family was an important part of his life and a great support during his illness. Stan was a quiet and gentle man, a devoted and dearly loved husband, father, son and brother that cherished the time spent with his family. His great sense of humor was one of his most endearing qualities. We will miss his laugh and his presence in our lives.
